Product Options 'Exceptions' (Allowed and Forbidden Option Combinations)

This quick guide will take you through the steps of creating forbidden or allowed option combinations.

To begin editing product exceptions, go to Products > Products.

Choose which product you want to edit by clicking on the product name or create a new one clicking the + icon.

General tab

Go to Options settings under the General tab.

Options type

This can be relevant to your product combinations. Here you can choose between “Simultaneous” and “Sequential”.

Simultaneous – choosing this setting will allow customers to choose the variants in any order they prefer. e.g. they can choose the size first and then choose if they want gift wrapping, or vice versa. It will appear on the storefront as pictured below.

Sequential - choosing this setting will require the customer to select the variants for each option one by one: first choosing a variant for the first option, then for the second option, and so on. It will appear on your storefront as pictured below.

Exceptions type

Allowed: Choosing this setting will only display the Allowed Combination you have created. Choosing this setting will allow you to create Allowed Combinations in the Options tab. For example, the allowed combination displayed below is for Size Small and Christmas gift wrapping.

Forbidden: Choosing this setting will ensure the forbidden combination of variants is not displayed on the storefront. Choosing this option will allow you to create Forbidden Combinations under the Options tab. For example, when the customer selects Size Small, the option for Christmas gift wrapping is not displayed as that is the forbidden combination.
