How do I configure the shipping methods** for my business?

A detailed guide covering the shipping methods available & how you can customise them to align with your courier rates & product types.

** A shipping method is defined as a set of rules and parameters used to calculate the cost of shipping orders to buyers and are dependent on a number of factors.

Marketplace Shipping Rules

Our aim is to give our sellers the maximum flexibility around how they can charge for shipping, and at the same time ensure our customers have consistency in the options available to them. This will include the names given to the options available and how they are classified, hence we have to set the following rules with further granular details outlined below:

  • Sellers must choose from the specific shipping methods which we have listed, however, sellers don’t have to offer all of the methods outlined (i.e. sellers decide where they want to ship to).
  • You must name these methods exactly as we have suggested (i.e. “ROI Standard Delivery”).
  • You cannot charge greater than the maximum figure which we have set for each method.
  • Each method is specific to a particular rate area which you need to follow.
  • To offer free shipping, you must create clones of the methods you have created for the rate areas you wish to offer free shipping. (We’ll explain this in more detail below.)
  • Your Seller account will not be approved to sell products if these rules are not met.

How to Configure Allowed Shipping Methods

In this example we'll show you how to configure a “paid for” shipping method – “ROI Standard delivery”.

Log in to your seller account

Go to: https://shuppy.ie/vendor.php and go to: Administration > Shipping & Taxes > Shipping Methods

This page contains an editable list of all shipping methods which you have created for your store (once you’ve set them up of course!). A shipping method can be defined as a set of rules and parameters used to calculate the cost of shipping orders to buyers and are dependent on:

    • The shipping address
    • The order total
    • The weight of items in the order
    • The number of items in the order

Each customer will be offered the shipping methods suitable for his / her order.

When you click on “Rate areas” you’ll see a list of the specific rate areas configurable. You will be able to activate and configure the areas when creating your own individual shipping methods.

      Add a Shipping Method

Click the + button in the upper right part of the page to add a new shipping method.

      “Information” details to be defined

Here you will need to enter some basic information before you can configure the method.

      • Name - Enter “ROI Standard delivery”
      • Description – To be left blank as not currently supported
      • Rate calculation – Select “Manual (by defined rate area)” ONLY
      • Delivery time - Enter “1-3 Days”
      • Weight limit – Enter a weight in kilograms at which point this shipping option is no longer an option. This means you don’t have a courier who can support it.
      • Status – once you are happy with how you have this setup then set to “Active”.

        “Extra” details to be defined

Here you will need to enter additional information before you can configure the method.

        • Icon - To be left blank as not currently supported
        • Taxes – All shipping must use your relevant VAT  rate
        • Customer must specify his/her address - to be left selected
        • Use this shipping method only when checked on the product – If you select this checkbox it means this method won’t be available on products by default. You will need to select it on a per product basis.
        • Allowed payment methods - selected by default.
        • User groups - to be left selected to “All”
        • Use for free shipping – If you check this and click the “free shipping” checkbox for a specific product (part of product configuration) then it will exclude the shipping price calculations for this specific method. (Essentially, it’s another way of offering free shipping at a product level without having to create separate free methods.)

Now Click the “Create” button top right:

“Shipping Times and Rates” details need to be defined

Once the page has reloaded, click on the new tab “Shipping times and rates”.

          • Select the appropriate “rate area” for the method you are configuring. In our example, you would select “ROI”.  ** You MUST only configure one rate area per shipping method (e.g. ROI Standard Delivery) **
          • Leave “Delivery time” blank as you have already set this in the previous step.
          • Specify your rates for this shipping method. The rates are separated into 3 options and 1 combo option. The options available are based on either the:

            • The order total is below €50, and the order weight exceeds 3kg: €25 + €4.
            • The order total exceeds €50, and the order weight is less than 3kg: €20 + €2.
